Two questions...

Hi everyone..

I have 2 questions that you might know the answer to.

1. About blurring out faces (old but maybe a suggestion?)

I know this topic is way old, but I wondered if it would be possible to create a plugin that lets the cookie cutter not 'cut away all but section' but 'put a little blur over all but section'?
It would of course only be helpful if it doesn't render slower then the old 'duplicate clips'-way. But if it's just as fast it would be the easiest way to blur out someone's face or genitals or whatever...

2. Making a title bar - adjusting the gradient blur..

I wanted to make a title bar that fades at the right side. You can do this with the generated media, but I couldn't seem to adjust it so that it really fades out very well. It does fade at the right side, but you still see that it ends in a 'hard way'.. Is there a way to have it like this: a red title bar that is really red at the left side of the screen, but that after a few inches to the right starts to fade out and becomes transparent somewhere at the middle of the screen.. with a really smooth fade?

Hope you have some ideas,

thx
Mark

Only got time to answer no.1

Put a duplicate of the clip on a track above itself.

Apply blur, pixellation, whatever effect you want, to the LOWER track

Apply the cookie cutter, with a bit of feathering, to the TOP track, so that the part you want to blur shows through the hole that the CC produces.

If the face moves around within the frame, you can use keyframes to vary the position, and size of the cookie cutter over time.

good luck

Thanks Peter,

I've been working like that for a while.. I'm looking for some kind of plugin that lets you use a cookie-cutter blur thingie that you can size and move around like the cookie cutter. It just doesn't have to 'cut' the selection or 'all but selection' but blur it..

thx

Yeah, I guess that would be nice, but basically the same thing - you'd still have to select what kind of blur/pixellation, the same as you do now for the bottom track, so the only thing you'd save on doing is duplicating the clip, Ctrl drag, which takes a coupla seconds.

I'd like to be able to input our own shapes into Cookie Cutter.

PeterWright, you can create shapes using a graphic program, then do the effect similar to cookie cutter, except as a MATTE KEY. the shape would be used as an alpha channel and fill with the blurred layer of video.

Yes Dave,

but the cookie cutter makes moving the "shape" around the frame, changing its size and applying a feather edge very easy.

Just a thought....maybe create your own shape and use it in Spicemaster 2 to move around??

Dunno, never tried it but might work...

Just offering another option.

You can use PAN/CROP to move the matte around, and you can either blur the event for a feather, or feather the graphic when you create it. This way you can make any shape you want and not have to rely upon the limited cookie cutter shapes.
