That's the good news - the bad news is that the UAD-1 does not work well with Vegas! The default reason seems to be the VST issue. Now that Acid can deal with VST it would be great if Sony got Vegas there ASAP (hopefully as an update)! Great stocking stuffer!
I've got 2 UAD-1 cards in my system and I use them like crazy with Vegas.
There is the known DX issue, but even with that, I'm fully taking adavantage of my cards with Vegas.
My point is, here is (the UAD-1) one of the coolest, cost effective, bang-for-your-buck additions to your DAW on the market. It's concept is great, it's effects are great, they are a stable company and are supporting their product by continuing to develop new effects - but if you use Vegas you expierience issues that uses of other software don't have to worry about.
...and that's a drag, it bums me out, and takes the joy right out of my life!
You should spend some time in the UAD-1 forum Kyoto, from what I read my experiences with the cards and Vegas/Acid are pain free compared to some people.
I have two cards running and have no worries.
With two cards I almost never run into the CPU munching problem and I don't hesitate to use the cards. If I ever do get near the edge, I just render a few of the plugins and free up space.
I've used the UAD-1 VST versions in Acid 5 and they work wonderfully.
If we're lucky enough to get VST for Vegas 6, the UAD munching problems should be over forever.

I thought I read somewhere that some rendering problems existed with the UAD-1 plugs (can't recall exactly what it was), but from your comment, apparently you're not having any issues with rendering? Also, please describe exactly _how_ you are rendering, ie; are you rendering individual tracks with UAD-1 processing or rendering submixes of 2 or more tracks with processing, or both? Or – are you somehow rendering just the UAD-1 processing, and if so, how are you doing this? (hope my questions are clear enough). ;-)
I don't have any rendering problems with the UAD-1, whether it's rendering a complete mix or individual tracks or sets of tracks.
The rendering I do to save UAD-1 processing power depends on which effect I'm using and how I'm using it.
If it's a Track effect like a compressor or EQ, I rerender the entire track with the effect applied. I then mute the track that has the real-time effects so they don't get used, but they let me go back later to adjust and re-render.
I do this a lot with the Pultec EQ which I'm addicted to. I can apply it, render the track with it applied and then I can bypass the EQ and free up cycles on the UAD-1.
If it's a reverb, I may render just the reverb and put it on it's own new track.
This works for a reverb as a buss effect.
Set up the reverb in Vegas (as FX1 for example).
Send whatever tracks you want to it.
Set all the levels as you like.
Then solo the reverb and render the entire project.
What you render should only be the reverb.
Load this as a new track, set volume to 0dB.
You should be able to turn off or get rid of the "real-time" reverb.
Of course if you change the tracks that were being sent to the reverb,
you'll need to repeat the render.

Thanks bgc. This is what I thought but I haven't tried it yet as I've always used outboard verbs and record the returns to separate tracks. Same approach of course, but until recently no plugin verb comes even close to the Lexicon PCM series units (70, 80, 90) so I rarely use plugin verbs except for minor ambience, or where its barely noticible. My hope is that the new UAD plate verb will stand on its own with the better outboard gear.
