ULead Movie Factory 3

After going through the many DVD programs , I decided on Movie Factory 3 and I bought the latest download version. However, I have encountered a problem and would like to know if anyone else has seen the same thing. If I put a +RW disc into the burner(Sony DRU500A 2.0g),
MF3 will not even recognize the burner if the disc has some material on it. That means that you can not erase it or "edit" it. If I take the disc into RecordNowMax,I can erase it with no problem. Then I go back in to MF3 and now the burner shows up in the "edit' or "erase" screen. Of course, now I don't need to erase it. I would like to see this erase operation take place in the MF3 program instead of going back and forth.
I will say the Ulead support has stayed on it but after a couple of patches and a new .dll, they have not been able to correct it.
Has anyone experienced this issue with MF3?

I have a DRU510A, and I have NOT seen this problem. If I try to burn with MF3 on a previously written +RW disc it asks me if I want to erase, click yes and it does it. Or I can click on "erase" before I try to burn. I have been using the trial edition.

I have seen lots of problems with incorrect filesizes if you use MPEGs created in Screenblast. The filesizes reported by MF3 are much larger than they really are. Also somehow get larger discs image files than buring the same discs compared to MF2. I've been using MF2 for some time and don't see these problems there. So I am waiting until I see these problems fixed in the trial before upgrading.

My issue is really pretty simple. If there is material on the +RW disc, MF3 will not even recognize that it is in the burner. In fact, the burner will not even be a choice in the various menus of drives. If I leave MF3 and go to RecordNowMax, I can erase the disc, then reopen MF3 and now the burner wiill be recognized in the drive choice windows. It just bothers me that I have to leave MF3 to erase the disc.
Hopefully, they can figure out something.

merkelck:

I was wondering if you have you updated the firmware of your Sony drive to the newest version?

I have only tried the trial version of Movie Factory 3 and am very impressed with the results using my Plextor PX708A drive. I have had problems getting *ANY* of the DVD authoring programs out there to produce decent results with this computer... the only combination which had worked reliably was to edit my captured MPEG files in another program (first Studio 8 and now ULead VS7) and then import them into Sonic MyDVD version 5 to add chapter points and burn. So I am very pleased with MF3 and will probably buy it before the 30 day trial runs out.

Yes, I have what I think is the latest firmware. The firmware link on the Sony web site is gone now but the last I saw was 2.0g. This problem only occurs in MF3. The disk will erase normally in another program. (RecordNowMax) and Nero. I just don't like to have to use two programs to erase a +RW disc. The system works fine with -RW media.

There is now a new firmware update for the DRU500a on the Sony site. It is 2.0h. After running the update, the problem with the +RW media and Ulead Movie Factory 3 has cleared itself. And it now works the same as with the -RW media.
