VMS 6 does not support AC3 encoding. So if you use AC3 you may need to author the DVD in another product. I use ULead MF 3.0.

What is AC3. When I work with Screenblast Movie Studio now, I just choose Make Movie and then choose to MPEG 2. Will I then be able to do a DVD in the new software?

Just a minor point, but the DVD creation is done in a separate program, Sony DVD Architect Studio. This program is included in the "Vegas Movie Studio + DVD" package, but you actually leave the Movie Studio video editing program and run DVDA Studio to do the DVD work.

Also, make sure you meet the operating system requirements:
- Microsoft® Windows® 2000, XP Home, or XP Professional.

I don't know what Screenblast MS 3 required, so I don't know if you might still be running Win 95 or 98, but VMS requires at least Windows 2000 or later.

AC3 is an optional "compressed" audio format that is supported by DVD players, but isn't supported (as an output) from VMS or DVDAS.

Uncompressed audio is called PCM, which is essentially the same thing as a .WAV file (I think). AC3 would take the same audio and convert it to a smaller file -- like a JPEG photo compared to a BMP.

I think you can probably fit about an hour of high quality video with the associated audio in PCM format on a regular, single layer DVD. If you compress the PCM audio to AC3, the audio file takes up less room, which leaves more room for video on the DVD, or lets you select a higher quality video mode than you otherwise would have room for.
