Ultimate S 4.1 install problem

erikd wrote on 7/26/2009, 12:42 AM
I am slowly moving over to 9.0a now with my work so I decided to update my Ultimate S from 4.03 to 4.1. After the install (I've repeatedly uninstalled and reinstalled several times now) I see 4.1 inside 8.0c but when I open 9.0a I see 4.03??

Probably missing something pretty basic but I could use a hand sorting this out.

This is usually caused by Vegas still being in memory when you initially uninstalled 4.03. When Vegas is running, it locks the DLL's from the command extension plug-ins that it uses. Even when you close Vegas, it sometimes hangs around in memory if you check the Task Manager.

The solution is to get back to the original state before things went wrong:

(1) Reboot your computer to make sure that Vegas is not in memory.
(2) Uninstall US Pro 4.1.
(3) Re-install US Pro 4.0. (this is to re-establish the uninstaller)
(4) Uninstall US Pro 4.0. (this is so that it will remove the old copy because 4.1 places the files in a different location.)
(5) Install US Pro 4.1.

This is the cleanest way to fix the problem. If that doesn't work, send an email to ultimatesupport and we'll work with you on an alternate manual procedure.

JR,

Good to hear from you on this. I followed your instructions and am closer to success. V8 shows 4.1 fine. However V9 is hanging when trying to open the program. V9 launch is normal all the way up till the very last and then I get a redx that says my license is expired.

The bad part is that there is no way for me to enter the license like normal. In the past when I've gotten a license expired you could enter in a dialog box the license and continue but I'm not getting the dialog box.

Any ideas how to resolve the issue even at this juncture?

This is a bit of a bump but I am not able to use V9 now because Ultimate S is causing the program to hang when opening. I'm pretty sure Ultimate S thinks my license is expired so it is trying to get me to enter the code but instead it just causes V9 to hang at startup.

I'm sure that JR and VASST will take care of me when they wake up MST in the US but that is a good 11 or 12 hours from now including my work day so I'm hoping for some assistance on this side of the globe.

I realize that I could just uninstall the software but it just so happens that I need the software now inside V9. I already started a new project in V9 so I can't open the veg in V8.

Hi Erik, You should always send an email to ultimatesupport here at VASST to get immediate help. If you will email us we will help you. (I said to do this in my original post if it didn't work) The full email is in the ReadMe file, User's Guide, and About Box (which I realize you can't get to at the moment) ;-)

These forums have no way to subscribe to posts so it's a bit difficult to know when someone has replied. :(

It should not be hanging. What may be happening is that the license expire dialog is behind the Vegas splash screen. You just need to click on the task bar button at the bottom of the Windows desktop to bring this dialog to the front so that you can press OK. Then it will continue.

Also, if it works in Vegas Pro 8.0 just enter the license there. It will see the one license across all the versions of Vegas that you have installed.

I worked with Erik off-line and we figure out that for some reason the US Pro 4.0 installer could not remove the old DLL so we had to remove it manually. For anyone else who encounters this problem with the update from Ultimate S 4.0 to 4.1 here is the manual solution to this problem:

Check the following folder:

XP

C:\Documents and Settings\<account>\Application Data\Sony\Vegas Pro\8.0\Application Extensions

Vista

C:\Users\<account>\AppData\Roaming\Sony\Vegas Pro\8.0\Application Extensions

Where <account> is your windows account name. If there is a file called UltimateS4V8.dll in this folder, delete it. This is the old location for Ultimate S Pro 4.0. If you hover your mouse over the dll file or check the properties, the file version should be 4.0.x.x. This did not get removed during uninstall for some reason.
