Ultimate S "adjust transitions length" has changed

I just noticed that in the new V8 compatible build of UltimateS, the "adjust transitions length" function is broken. It doesn't work in Vegas 7 either. One build earlier works fine.

Anyway, of course I am in the middle of a simple outdoor event coverage project where I need this. It doesn't work, and because I have done the last days work in the new V8, I can't do it in V7 either. AAHH!

what are you needing it to do? do you need it to adjust the length of the transitions already there, or are you wanting it to create transitions from cuts that you have?

When did you download US3.1? This was broken in an earlier build but got fixed before Monday's launch. When you go to the US3 help or User's Guide does it say 3.0 or 3.1. The 3.1 version has the adjust transition length fixed. Just re-download and re-install.

Also note that Adjust Transition Length has changed it's behavior in US3.1. It will no longer create new transitions. It only adjusts "existing" transitions. The old behavior can be done using Photo Montage since placement and transition length have been separated and can be used independently.

I just did it with with the 15 day trial version of Excalibur 5 so I'm fine now. Basically it is just an event coverage video. The way I do these is but all the footage on the timeline, trim away the junk, then use the Ultimate S adjust transition length script to put nice one second crossfades between the clips. It's fast and easy and seems to make everyone happy.

Wow, what a fast fix! Thanks JR.

I do have the latest version installed. It's the change in behaviour that threw me.

If I use the Photo Montage tool, it seems to lose sync between the audio and the picture.

Did you select both the audio and the video track? This will keep them in sync.

I am working on another event coverage project. I used to just crop out the garbage at the ends of the clips and run the Ultimate S script to overlap the events at about a second overlap. Anyway, as JR mentioned, the new Ultimate S no longer adds transitions where none where. It only adjusts the transition length of existing transitions. Unfortunately this is not what I need. I need to add transitions like Ulitmate S used to do. I also tried using the Photo montage tool in various ways without success.

Anyway, I need to be able to do this so I just bought Excalibur. It is for the most part redundant with Ultimate S, but I need to be able to do this. In any case, both scripts seem to be fine programs and I'm sure I won't regret owning both.

Laurence, you should have contacted us. I'm sure we could had added an option to have it work both ways. We are always open to suggestions from our customers and try to implement as many as possible in our products (and have implemented several of yours in the past). Next time contact us.

I'd still love to see it implemented both ways. There are many instances where the new way is actually superior. I only need it the old way for extremely boring event coverage type video, which unfortunately seem to take up a lot of my time lately.

The problem is that this particular job (which includes two events and several hours of footage) needs to be done, including about a hundred duplicated copies, before I leave for a Thanksgiving vacation early next week.

You have implemented several ideas that have really helped me out considerably. In fact, your scripts are one of the biggest advantages of Vegas and why I'll probably never use any editor that can't run them.

Well I got my Excalibur code and couldn't seem to make it work with that script either. The problem is that I had some video events on one track and some on another but Excalibur seems to want to push all the events on a given track together and to the beginning when it uses the "Gap/Overlap" function.

I ended up doing rough crossfades quickly by hand and then using Utimate S to even them out.

Excalibur does move them to the beginning of the track by default. However, if you place a command marker on the timeline where you want the first event to start, that will be the beginning point. And, yes, it expects all the events to be on the same track.
