Ultimate S Pro: replacing cuts with transitions

megabit wrote on 9/9/2008, 10:18 AM
I have just installed the demo of Ultimate S, and wanted to replace all hard cuts I created using Veags Multicamera editing (out of 3 cameras) with transitions. It works, only I don't know how to only select events right from the cursor position. Whatever I check off in the event selection pane, it acts on all events in the track - the result being all gaps I left at the beginning (on purpose) are closed, with all the events moving to the left (and of course the synchronization with audio going south).

How do I do it, so that replacing hard cuts with 8 frame-long transitions doesn't spoil my sync?

I don't have it on this machine, but look under the audit tab. There you can specify which events and select all events to the right of the cursor, directly beneath the cursor and specify which tracks you want it applied to.

The audit tab is where you need to look.

Sorry, but don't anything in the Audit tab that could apply...

Unless I'm missing something important, the event selection option in the Editing Tools tab don't work as expected.

Since I'm already past the middle of my important, multi-cam project, I'd prefer to finish it without resorting to additional tools like this; is there a way in Vegas to replace all existing hard cuts with transitions, without moving the video events on the timeline?

I guess that to accomplish that, the takes of my multicamera project would have to be elongated, as well - is Ultimate S Pro supposed to do that for me?

Just an update: thanks to jetdv, I tried Excalibur - and did my thing in 2 seconds. Exactly as required!

I just can't believe the Ultimate S Pro cannot do the same; my first problem being the event selection not acting as expected - what am I missing?

Mega,

I don't have my editing computer here & I haven't used Ultimate S much, but I'm pretty sure you have to select the events before you bring up Ultimate S (the "event" option will only work on *selected* events). Pretty sure you can right-click on an event and there should be an option to "Select events to end". If you want to apply something on multiple tracks at the same time, hold down the CTRL (or maybe SHIFT?) key and do the same thing on the different tracks you want, then apply the US function you want.

Whatever I do, however I try - Ultimate S will always act on ALL event's of the track, and - in endeavour to close all gaps - moves them all to the left (and all I want is creates transitions without moving events at all)...

As I said - I did it with Excalibur, but still: what am I missing about USPro?

You're not missing anything. Some of the features in Adjust Events work at the track level while others work at the event level. I realize that this is confusing for users and so I'm working on an update where they all work at the event level. This gives you more control. I will also add the ability to change the transitions without moving the events. Stay tuned.
