Here's an interesting product for chroma keying called Ultra. It's a stand alone, not a plug-in. Thought some might be intersted. Has anyone here tried it or seen the results first hand?
there were some posts by Ken Calhoun a few weeks back , he had posted some footage using it, looks like its got lots of potential, for the right uses.
(sidenote, got your message Jay, havent had much time away from the day job for my project, But I am going to the Vasst and Sony Seminars in Orlando this monday/tues.
I'll drop you an email this weekend.

I have had a chance to play with Serious Magic's Ultra - it is great. Actually the concept it pretty genus in how it is layed out for the user. You can shoot some green screen alone and than place your talent there and do whatever. Now you bring in the screen shot and Ultra reads it fo color and then - poof - adding any other footage shot under the same circumstances and the screen is removed automaticly.
You also have the ability to do a "live" preview. So say you had something like a laptop with your green screen effect(s) on the set. You would load up your effecvt and use th elive preview to line up the green screen shot, seeing the results in very real time - before you actually shoot. Very awesome feature that is.
I know someone who got pretty good keys using Serious Magic's Visual Communicator product. That is like the little brother of Ultra.
He had the talent about 2 feet max from the wall, the green screen was creased and he was using overhead flourescents as his lights. He also kept wondering why he was getting soft focus when he opened up the aperture.
So if he could get could keys with it, it must be pretty good.
The technology is called "vector keying" not chroma keying, I don't know the technical difference, but it is suppossed be an advance in technology.
