Latest update of Vegas 20 Pro. The help page for Vegas Pro lacks so much detail, it is no help at all. I am unable to bring up the effects settings window that shows up when first creating the project.
Sounds like you need to bring up project settings, not effect settings, as that is the only thing that first shows up when creating a project. While it looks different than the screen that first shows up when you open VEGAS Pro, clicking File > Properties will pull up all the settings you need for your project settings (it actually contains more options than the welcome screen does). If it is effect settings you are after, there's multiple places you can put effects in VEGAS Pro... at the event level (right click an event, video event fx), at the media level (right click an event or media clip in project media, media fx), at the track level (select track fx from the track menu on the left side of the track), or at the project level (the fx button by the preview monitor). Each of these will let you choose and adjust the settings for various effects you've applied at various levels in your project.
Thank you for your prompt reply. I tried everything you suggested and either wasn't doing it correctly or they didn't work or I couldn't find the correct links. I want to bulk change to a simple fade, which I orginally set up, it worked, I saved the project, and it then used random transitions when I opened the project file. When I select the entire timeline, the EventsFX does not function. The program could and should be more intuitive. So very frustrating using my long-time favorite programs (heck - Sonic Foundry, Sony, Vegas), but Magix consistently befuddles me. I have other options. I'll leave it at that. Thanks again for your help.

@Robert-K Hi, are you def using Vegas Pro or have you upgraded & been duped by Magix into getting Magix Movie Studio? Got to ask 😉

@Former user Thanks. I am definitely using Vegas Pro. However, I am aware of your thinking behind being "duped" by Magix and agree with the thinking behind that statement. I have three images to upload to share what I am talking about, but clicking on the arrow button just opens an empty text box below. In as few words as I can say to explain a couple things: Today, I can't even find the EventsFX link or anything saying "EventsFX" that I could find yesterday. On the effects menu bar immediately above the timeline, when I click on "Transitions" or "Video Effects," all sorts of funky things happen, all of which ef up my mind, none of which are helpful, and all of which get me more aggravated with the lack of an intuitive interface. It could be said, I suppose, the Vegas Pro is above my pay grade, but that is nonsense because I have been using Vegas Studio and Vegas Pro in the past without these problems. The bottom line in my mind: Magix just mucks up the Vegas Pro upgrades. And, I've never been happy with the Vegas products since Magix bought it, nor have I been OK with this company in general.
And what's with the "Magix" branding and "Vegas Creative Software" branding from the same company. Apparently they have the former Vegas team as a spin-off outfit as indicated in the URL? Or not? What is up with this company?
@Former user and @fr0sty, I really appreciate your help. I have a decision to make since these newest versions make me feel like a newbie or a moron, or both. Software shouldn't do that to an experienced user. This is essentially the last straw with me using anything Magix.
The overall operation of Vegas hasn't changed for many years. They have added things and moved some around. I don't see any "mucking up" of the software. I think a screenshot of your issues would help us understand a lot of what is going on.

That's interesting, considering the rest of us are using it just fine... You're obviously looking for "event fx" as a tab, which there isn't (nor ever was in previous Sony versions of VEGAS) one there. You access Event FX by right clicking on an event on the timeline, and selecting "video event FX", or by pressing the little FX button that is on each clip on the timeline.
As for VEGAS Creative Software, they have always been the developers of VEGAS, it's the same core team behind it that always was... they used to be owned by Sony, then Sony left them to die for years while the competition sped ahead of them, then Magix purchased them and breathed new life into the project, enabling them to resume work on modernizing VEGAS, It's still the same people calling the shots behind the scenes, though.
and it then used random transitions when I opened the project file.

@Robert-K Hi, i read your comment " I am definitely using Vegas Pro" 👍 but just to clarify to anyone/everyone what I was thinking, Magix Movie has Effects & it has the option to add Random Transitions, so when you used those words 'I had to ask' 👍
