Has your MPEG been registered? Put some video on the line, go to File - Render As - and pick MPEG2 as the format. Go to "Custom" and register it.

Hi jetdv
Not sure what you mean.
What video do I place on the timeline? Obviously I can't place the unrecognised mpeg file on a video track ... that's the basic problem. So what do I place on the timeline?

Also, I checked everywhere under Custom in Render As, and cannot find any reference to registering the file type.

A step-by-step would be most helpful. Thanks.

Just put some DV AVI video on the timeline and then select a few seconds, and render the selected region to MPEG-2. If your MPEG-2 has not yet been registered, this will bring up the registration screen, you can register, and then you can proceed with what you were originally trying to do.

he said already that he can render to mpeg2, so that is not the issue ... the issue is that the streams are most likely elementary streams and have to be multiplexed to program streams

I have a standard .mpg I can import into 6b, but cannot do anything else. Vegas will freeze if I try render, fx, delete track, etc. Had to use Windows Movie Maker to convert it to a DV AVI and then no problems. Have no problems rendering to .mpg with 6b.

Yes, B_JM, what you say seems to make sense. Jetdv & johnmeyer didn't understand the problem - the problem is not that I can't render files to mpeg2 -- it's that certain mepg2 files created in another program (not Vegas) can't be placed on the video track. I have a whole bunch of mp2 video-only files (the audio is separate on a wav file) captured with a DC2000 card. These files are fully DVD-compliant and are incorporated without change or alteration into Sonic's DVDit!; however, they won't work in Vegas or DVDA. Trying to work out why.
How does one multiplex to a program stream?

use tmpgenc -> file -> mpeg tools -> simple multiplex and load m2v files and multiplex (no audio required) to a program stream
