Unable to open a particular AVC/AC3 video in Vegas

I am trying to open a 720p AVC/AC3 video in Vegas 8.0 and am unable to.

Via MediaInfo, here are the stats on the video:
MPEG-TS container
1 video stream: AVC
3247 kbps, 1280*720 (16:9) at 23.976 fps, AVC (High@L4.1) (CABAC / 3 Ref frames)

1 audio stream: AC-3
384 kbps, 48.0 kHz, 6 channels, AC-3

I've installed ffdshow and x264vfw, and VLC player and Media Player Classic can both play the video and audio without problem.

I'd like to be able to import the video into Vegas, but Vegas just hangs when I just click on the video in the import window (as it tries to determine what it is).

Any ideas about how to import into Vegas as is or at least convert the video portion into something that Vegas can understand? Premiere opens it but the video is a bit scrambled in certain spots. VLC can convert, but scrambles it even more. VirtualDub, VirtualDubMOD, WinFF and ArcSoft MediaConverter either can't open it or crash.

Any ideas? I realize the request is obscure, but if someone has an epiphany, I'd sure appreciate it. Thank you!

What is the file extension?
What Quicktime version do you have?

Also, the profile / level may indicate it needs to be run through TSMuxer first. Can you upload a clip somewhere?

File extension is .mpg
I'm using QuickTime 7.6.5

I'll give TSMuxer a try. The video is 1.5GB, so too large to upload.

TSMuxer didn't appear to help, but it's a neat piece of software. So far, it looks like AVIDemux2 is working -- it converted the wrapper to an AVI and now VirtualDub is happy with it. Trying to export from VirtualDub now and I'll report back if it doesn't work.

Quicktime 7.6.5 may be your problem.
You may want to try rolling back to 7.6 and see if your files open without converting first.

Vegas will open a M2TS with ac3 audio.

Try using TSmuxeR to mux your file over to M2TS then see if that imports.

One note... you MUST have DVDA installed on the same machine.

"Vegas will open a M2TS with ac3 audio."

I was under the impression Vegas would not open AC3 files. Are you sure? This technique would help my workflow as well.

Thanks for the info,
Will
