unable to open an audio clip in soundforge

When I attempt to open an audio clip, or copy of a clip in SoundForge (10e) from Vegas Pro 12 (build 486) I get a popup that says it cannot not open the program. I have checked my Vegas audio settings to ensure I have SoundForge .exe as my audio editor. I have am current in my installed version of both Vegas Pro and SoundForge. Any thoughts.

Try changing the Audio Device type within SF to 'Classic Wave Driver' or 'Microsoft Sound Mapper'
In SF menu: "Options> Preferences> select the "Audio" tab and 'Playback'

Thanks for the effort to help, but change did not fix the issue. One additional piece of information is that the when the request to open the audio clip in Sound Forge is clicked a "take" of the audio clip is made, but Sound Forge never opens.

I recall the VP options setting: Options> Preferences> General, check mark "Close Media files when not the active application" If VP12 is like previous versions.
