Unable to Record voice

I’m New to Vegas Video.

This should be easy, but I am unable to record voice through my mic to VV. I can record on virtually any other program, Pinnacle Studio, Microsoft Movie Maker, etc.; but VV will not record through my sound card on my computer.

In “preferences” under the audio tab, my “default audio recording device” is set to “SiS 7018 Wav”, which is my built in sound card on my motherboard.

Any ideas?

Try setting it to Microsoft sound mapper---make sure you arm the track before recording.

Yep, I tried that; in fact, I tried every combination I could think of. I haven’t solved the problem yet but found some interesting things while experimenting.

When I push the microphone icon to begin recording in the latest Microsoft Movie Maker(Beta)program, I can then go to VV and it will record! When I click on another icon in MS Movie Maker (essentially turning off the record part of the program), then VV will NOT record.

I then went to my “Volume” settings in my sys tray and found that if I uncheck the microphone “Mute” button, VV will record; but then I can hear my voice over the speakers as I am speaking. I suppose I could always turn off my speakers as I’m talking, but I’m sure there must be a better solution to this.

Any more ideas?

OK,I figured it out.

In the volume control settings I went to “options” “properties” then “recording”. I then clicked the select button in “microphone”. I can now check the “mute” button in “playback” mode, and VV records fine.

I can’t believe I never messed with that before!

Yes--sometimes its the simple things--glad you are up and recording.
