Unable to skip within rendered MP4 file

(I apologize if there is a posting on this already... if so, feel free to direct me to it as I couldn't find any.)

I just rendered a MainConcept mp4 version of an HDV timeline that is 1 hour and 20 minutes in length. Whether I render it into SD, iTunes/iPhone compatible, or any other mp4 version, I'm not able to easily skip to different portions within the video. It takes about 1-2 minutes for either Windows Media Player, Nero, or Media Player Classic to catch up and play the file. Then, if I put it onto the Western Digital Media Player, it doesn't allow me to fast forward at all or even to pause the file. If I try, the file just begins back at the beginning. Has anyone experienced this? Is there a way to address this?

The same Vegas file when rendered into WMV or AVI doesn't have this problem.

Same issue here. Any word on a workaround?

I posted this yesterday in another topic.... at the time I thought it was Quicktime alone.... but yeah it happens whenever I use the Main Concept AVC encoder... for now I use the Sony AVC encoder (even though it is only CBR).

i'm not sure about this, but WMV's don't like skpping around unless you have the keyframe (correct?) setting setup properly. Maybe it's the same thing here?

Could be... but I highly doubt it.... besides there is not option to set a custom Key Frame (I Frame) with this encoder, that is done under the hood.

I thought perhaps it was the muxer... but even after demuxing the stream and re muxing it with mp4box... the results are the same... so I am leaning to a bad video stream that it created. On Quicktime on my Mac - the audio only responds to transport changes... the video freezes.

i've had success running the mp4 file through handbrake.

make sure to set all the parameters the same as the source file. it has the added benefit of making the mp4 slightly smaller in filesize with no apparent loss of quality.
