Uncompressed 10-bit editing in Vegas!

Dear Forum Users,

Check out this machine:

I spoke with a representative from BlueFish444, the sister company of the uncompressed 10-bit sd-sdi digital voodoo cards. I was told that you can capture the clips in premiere, and then save them as quicktime uncompressed or use the digital voodoo codec and bring them over to vegas for editing! This means you can edit 10-bit uncompressed 4:2:2 video <-- isn't that broadcast quality, folks? :)

It looks like Vegas is NOT limited to just DV editing! :)

Thoughts?

I want BlueFish444 to support Vegas! (If enough people write them...)

I don't think Vegas has ever been restricted to DV editing but it's restricted to 8 bit per channel RGB (uncompressed). The fact that it can only capture DV, well that's another story...

Broadcast Quality does not equal 4:2:2, OR YUV, or anything else that seems to keep getting the term attached to it. It's become another buzz term.
4:1:1 video is used every single day for broadcast, and in the hands of a competent shooter, it's broadcast quality. In the hands of the uninitiated, a high def cam isn't broadcast quality either. Numbers mean little anymore. "CD Quality" has been the latest buzzword for audio, but truth is, CD quality means little too. We've got "high def" audio at 24bit/192k, but if it's not used correctly, it's just another rusty tool in the toolbox.
Not to be on a highhorse, but just because the tools and numbers are there doesn't mean much. Not anymore. Heck, at one time, VHS was 'broadcast quality' and then SVHS. Soon we'll see high def cams at prices under 10k. But it won't change much.
But, if we're gonna see hardware cards marrying Vegas, I'd prefer to see support from a company that's been around a while, like Matrox. That's my .02

JVC just showed an HD camcorder for around $4000, the JY-HD10U, single chip-1.18 million pixels. Haven't done any looking around for this machine, because the cost of HD gear has been so prohibitive that there's little reason to understand the technical specs, but I'm curious, could some knowledgeable person check this thing out and let us know if the output can be edited in Vegas ?

I think if we see hardware acceleration in Vegas I would like to see Canopus. I've been most impressed with what they've put out and they seem to have better drivers than Pinnacle or Matrox.

But heck, if we are wishing, let's have Media 100 marry the Vegas interface to their 844/X hardware. Now that would probably start kicking some tail.

I capture using my trusted (and old) DVRaptor cards from Canopus. Yes, I must do it through RaptorVideo (or Premiere 6.x), but the DV files produced are otherwise completely supported in Vegas 4 (with short "selective rerenders" and all). I can even render out to long AVI2 format files (if desired).

I'm (already) impressed with this feat. However, if Canopus would make a capture driver for Vegas 4 (doubtful in light of their new Edious NLE) then that would great!

Canopus would be great, because they, like matrox have been around. However, they're not doing anything in HD, (not at this time) and HD and 24p and really more 24p are the bigger picture than is 10bit, uncompressed, etc. Compression schemes ie;codecs are great now, it's not like in the old days 3 years ago. So being caught up in uncompressed or even to a degree, 10 bit really pales compared to the bigger picture of 24p and/or HD. IMO.
One thing to consider....did you know that 24p is half the render time of 29.97/60i? And compressed HD still looks better than uncompressed SDI in the hands of the same shooter, because of the greater resolution. But that's all subjective, I suppose...Anyway, Matrox has solutions at all those levels, which is why I like them. Canopus is super great too, I love working with those guys. Pinnacle, I wish would just go away with their hydra-like company. They do everything, and do very little well.
