why is it whenver i add a uncompressed avi to my timeline i cannot see anything, in previesw or when i render. its is just black, it works good in media player, ulead videostudio but not in vegas video. how do i fix this?
I wish I could be of more help but I have never had such an error happen. I have heard of similar problems when trying to import certain DIVX files, that's why I asked. Is this one particular file or any uncompressed avi? Is this a new problem or were you able to import these files into Vegas before? What was used to capture? When you drop it on the timeline, do you get audio but no video or nothing at all?
Hopefully, with all the great minds on this forum, someone will be able to help.
Usually if Vegas don't like the format you can't drop the file on the timeline with the cursor never changing from the circle with a line through it, but you can frequently open the file in VirtualDub, first saving it there. Sounds maybe more like a missing, corrupt or unregistered DLL than a corrupt file if it really isn't a DivX.
What does Vegas say about format if you right click on the file on the timeline and look on the media tab under properties?
Vegas will allow you to drag and drop many DivX files to the timeline, play the audio fine, but the video track and preview window remains black.
For example I just tired to open a divX 5 file, got the symptoms I just said. Opened in VirtualDub, saved to AVI, then Vegas opened it fine.
Conclusion, if it don't say uncompressed under format and unless something is wrong with your install of Vegas, chances are pretty good it isn't uncompressed.
I have also found the same problem if you try to transfer the file
directly through a network from Adobe Premier to Vegas. Sound OK but no picture.
This might have been some other problem however.
its says uncompressed under properties. size 704x480. frame rate 12fps, duration : 4 s, video sample rate 32 bit. ill try resaving the avi, but so far all of them are like that...
