Uncompressed export

Hi

I need to supply a broadcaster with a 16:9 SD (standard definition) full-screen format. I was told to :

export your final graded edit as an uncompressed quicktime
make a new PAL sequence (720x576)
put your export into that sequence so it will fit into the frame with black bars top and bottom (letterbox)

now this might sound a but confusing but you need to stretch the pictures aspect ratio to fit the full frame
its called full height anamorphic
play with the distortion and sizing on the clip will it fits the full frame as a square
export your audio separately as an aif or wave also

How do I do this in Platinum ? Is it possible to export uncompressed files and which setting do I use.

Are you sure they want uncompressed video? It's going to be huge -- over a gigabyte per minute. And, since your original camcorder video was compressed, it's not like it's going to improve provide improved quality.

Hi Steve and thanks for the reply.. I'm just trying to figure out what the best way to go is here. I shot on a canon 550D so the file are compressed. Is there a way to do the below. Excuse if I'm asking the obvious but I am new at this

make a new PAL sequence (720x576)
put your export into that sequence so it will fit into the frame with black bars top and bottom (letterbox)

I'm confused. They want you to render it to fit within a 4:3 frame, *THEN* render it again to stretch it to fill the frame? Why the heck bother? Your project is already in the format they want.

Render to a widescreen PAL SD format. Done. It will be full frame anamorphic Vegas will set the aspect ratio flag to tell their playback system that it's widescreen.

I would imagine that either Quicktime DV or AVI DV are the best formats to send them.

Ok .. i'll do as as you said and take to the post house . Thanks

One question. I use Vegas because it's the easiest to use as i come form a music production backround. with a music track I can make another track and then record the effects and changes in real time or even on the original track. The reason I ask is I'd like to do live effects and platback like reverse and stuttering in time with the music video . Is there a way to do this in real time without extensive editing. Basically i want to record the output of one clip onto another track . ?/

The way you do this with video is to render your edits and effects to a new file, then bring this new file in on another track.

I dont want to render . that is a restrictive method. I want to record the output of the video track in real time onto another track so I can record effects while they are happening. I find it easier to manually edit the track by rewinding it in time with the music by moving the slider. I have to play the audio thru a player otherwise it also reverses, etc . But this way I can manipulate the video organically and not have to edit the video. I can also play with the effect parameters . In ableton live everything one does can be recorded and this allows for massive experimentation and freedom in creating a live recording. I would like to do this with video.

I know that's what you want to do. The way to do this is to render to a new file.

ok..thanks..I'm sure you know. So are you saying I can render in realtime ?
Chienworks wrote on 5/7/2012, 5:38 AM
No, rendering has never been a realtime process. What you desire to do doesn't exist, probably in any NLE. Maybe about the closest you could come would be a screen grab program that could record the preview window while your project plays, but that would have a lot of flaws.

What is your objection to rendering? It will accomplish what you say you want to do. In fact, it is *THE* way to accomplish it. Many folks do it all the time.
