In DVDArchitect Pro - you have the option of creating any kind of highlight masks - such as a row of asterisks - how you do it is beyond the capability of just one post in a forum - I suggest you research the term highlight masks and look at some DVDAPro training materials including those that are on this site.

You can do this fairly easy in DVD Architect (it doesn't have to be Pro).
You need to create a .png image of your stars (or asterisks, or anything really) with a transparent background (the foreground must be black). You can use GIMP (which is free and excellent) or your favourite application.
Create a menu background using GIMP (or any other) with your button text(s) and all other text where they need to be.
In DVDAS, set the background media for the menu to be the background you created. Select Insert/Empty Button then, in the Button Properties carry out the following:-
Media Tab - select Button style to be Image only
Highlight Tab - select Style to be Custom
Still on the Highlight Tab - select Mask to be Replace
Open Media dialog - browse for the .png file created above and select Open.
Resize your mask and place it underneath your button text.
You may need to experiment with the .png image (add more asterisks, make them bigger, etc) to get your desired effect but it's as easy as that.
I create all my buttons in GIMP and you can be as creative as you like.
