As anyone that's read some of my posts knows, I'm into burning my edited videos onto CD's big time so they can be played off a free standing DVD player. While the resulting quality is OK, the limitations of the current hardware restrict quality to using MPEG-1. Making your own DVD disks is way too pricy for most, with DVD burners costing two, three or four time or more a CD burner so what else? Well there is SVCD or Super Video CD's.
This isn't for everyone, and it still is a little early hardware wise if you live in the states or Europe, but just like LCD monitors are standard fare in the far East and are just starting to move into the mainstream market here so too with be support for the newer video formats.
The two following links will get up to speed on what's coming down the road in the not too distant future, I hope. :-)
