Undocking windows: anomaly..?

FuTz wrote on 2/11/2004, 8:11 AM

When I undock windows to put them on my second screen, ther's a strange (I guess) behavior: for example the "original" lower left window wich contains Generated Media/Explorer/etc will move and when I release my mouse nothing happens 'til I re-click again. THEN, I have no choice but to get those windows "separately", ie those being NOT shown as *tabs* into the *same window*. Needless to say that I have no choice but to work with multiple windows crammed over the others... like I was using another program I really don't want to use for editing...

I just re-installed everything under Win2K a week ago. Could it be that I forgot something?

Not sure. One of the many unintuitive things about Vegas, but I do remember this thread:

LOL !
Thy who bites...ok, I got your point!
(but at that time, I didn't have this problem!)
(it's since I reinstalled Windows...)

On top of that: if I undock my Explorer window into this same second screen, I lose my scrubber! I can't view my clips quickly like I used to do! If I bring back the window into the first screen, everything's ok...

If worst comes to worst, you could reinstall Vegas. This should restore everything to their default positions.

I've had to resort to this when I goofed up on panel placement.

Much simpler than reinstalling is to hold the Ctrl & Shift keys down while starting Vegas. This resets all options, preferences, & GUI items to the original default settings & positions. It does also reset everything you really wanted changed too, so be forewarned!

Thanks, Chienworks.
I knew there had to be another way!

In my Premiere days, I (frequently!) would have to delete the preferences (.prf) file when Premiere would get buggy. After having to reset everything a few times, I learned to make a backup of the preferences file for just such an emergency.

Is there a similar file in Vegas that stores customization settings?

I just tried the ctrl+shift trick and... it doesn't change anything...
Bah, I can live with it anyway, it's just that I have to listen to the whole clip in real time to view my clips so I use the Trimmer to "scrub by selecting"...
Thanks for input! (and I'm glad I learned one more trick!) : )
