Unistall 5.0 knocks out 5.2

diverG wrote on 12/11/2010, 8:50 AM
DVDA 5.0 & 5.2 installed. DVDA 5.0 now longer required so uninstalled via control panel.
DVDA 5.2 will not open.
Can over come this problem by uninstalling 5.2 & reinstalling.
Why does uninstalling an earlier version of DVDA should upset 5v2 and is this usual with Sony software?

I just leave both on my system, especially since 5.2 breaks my Cinescore application ability...

I guess most users follow your practice as no other users have posted this problem.
This problem may be quite common as I also ‘tidied’ up my wife’s pc and DVDA 5.2 disappeared there too. My wife ‘edits’ I just maintain the machines and try to sort problems.
I left VP9 on the system as a fall back from VP10 in case of bugs.

I'll remember this if DVDa 5v3 comes out

When DVDA 5.0 came out you could use the same registration info as 4.5 and it installed into a 4.5 folder. 5.2 on the other hand installed into a 5.0 folder and required different registration. It seems like 5.0x is really 4.5y and 5.2 is 5.0.

I had a few funnies with 5.2 (I forget details now) so I continued to use 5.0b with Vegas 9.0c. Sometime later Vegas would not create AC3 files, complaining that DVDA needed to be registered, even though it was. So I tried registering, but couldn't. Uninstalling and reinstalling DVDA 5.0b didn't help. Cleaning the registry with two different products didn't help. So nothing for it but clean install of everything. Now all OK.

Just looking at my installation now I see that the DVDA 5.0b application is installed into C:\Program Files (x86)\Sony\DVD Architect Pro 4.5\ while setup files are stored in C:\Program Files (x86)\Sony Setup\DVD Architect Pro 5.0\

I haven't reinstalled DVDA 5.2, but my guess is that the app would be installed into C:\Program Files (x86)\Sony\DVD Architect Pro 5.0\ and the setup files into the same folder as above. Perhaps this is where things are getting mixed up. Uninstallation usually uses the setup program to do its work. I just used the default folders but I think you can change them.

DVDA 5.2 installs in C:\program files\Sony\DVD Architect 5.2 so removing DVDA 5.0 which resided in directory .........4.5 should have been straight forward.
Before reinstalling 5v2 I deleted the old .....4.5 directory. Not sure what the setup directory is for.
Not come across any other problems in 5v2

I had set a restore point prior to adding VP10 & DVDA5v2 so had a fall back position.

"Not sure what the setup directory is for."

Well surely it is for unpacking the .exe file prior to installation. I am suggesting that it might also be used for uninstallation, and if both versions share this folder then no wonder there are problems.

I don't feel inclined to confirm this at the moment, having just spent a lot of time reinstalling two computers and having considerable problems with the other one.

In your shoes I wouldn't either.

I've reported this to Tech Support.. I'll report back if I get an aswer from Tech Support.

This is part of the Vegas Pro suite and one can have older versions installed concurrently and unistall them without effect the remaining versions. One would expect this policy to extend through DVDA.

Got the same problem - only on my PC.

On my laptop did a fresh reinstall of Win 7 (64) and DVDA 5.2 and it works perfectly.

On the PC, I unistalled DVDA 5.0 and then installed 5.2

5.2 simply wouldn't run. Nothing happened. Reinstalled 5.0 and 5.2 worked perfectly. Unistalled 5.0 and 5.2 stopped working. Something not right here. Awaiting a response from tech support

Bought a new SSD hard drive today and so did a fresh install of Windows.

Installed DVDA 5.2 - and it works perfectly. No problem, re-booted the PC many times, and each time it comes back up checked DVDA 5.2 - always works.

Seems to be something when you have unistall 5.0 after having installed 5.2.

I'm running Win 7 64 Ultimate on both PC & Laptop - so not sure if the issue related to 64 bit only???(or if 32 bit machines have the same problem too)
diverG wrote on 12/23/2010, 4:32 AM
DVDA is 32 bit only but I had same problem on laptop (64bit) & pc (32bit). Once I realised taking out 5.0 killed 5.2 I simply uninstalled 5.2 restarted pc and reinstalled. no problems since.

Not had a reply to my email to tech support..

At least I'm not alone with this problem.

Hello All:

I have DVD-A Studio 4.5 and DVD-A Pro 5.2 installed. Each seems to work fine, and I believe my generated music in Pro 5.2 is coming from from my "old" Cinescore application that came with VMS 9.0. The Cinescore has all the same music and theme variations which is why I assume (but have not verified) it is the same old Cinescore. I never had a prior version of the DVD-A Pro so cannot speak to that.

On my 32-bit Vista computer the programs reside in the Program Files/Sony folder but each has its own folder from there . . .

Assuming 5.2 was installed after 4.5 or 5.0.
I would expect both 4.5 & 5.2 to work as they are indepentant programs and install in different directories. I would also expect to have both 4.5 7 5.2 open simultaneously.

I decided I had no need for 2 versions of DVDA so uninstalled the earlier version via the control panel. I then tried to open 5.2 to finish DVD. 5.2 would not open. Checking the DVDA icon in the control panel 'programs & features showed all was not well so removed 5.2 and re installed it.. I had already taken 5.0 off my laptop but not checked 5.2 worked. It didn't..

Should you uninstall 4.5 be prepared to find 5.2 not working.

There is something not right with this.

On a fresh install of Windows, DVDA 5.2 works perfectly, the problem (on my PC) seemed to because it was installed with the older version of DVDA.

Clean install of Windows on both laptop & PC - no issues at all with DVDA 5.2

Very odd.
