► Unresolved Rendering vegas rotates video into strange orientation

rowan-w wrote on 4/6/2025, 4:38 AM

I have this 1.5 hour long video with some vertical video mixed with some landscape video to output at 1080p 30fps in landscape. When I edited the video I had to change the orientation of lots of clips. When playing back in the editor it looks fine but when rendering it outputs in vertical with videos on a strange angle. I am using version 17. My render settings are 1920x1080p 30fps same as project settings.

How exactly did you change the orientation of those vertical events? Please describe in detail the steps that you took.

I had loads of clips that were in weird orientations that some had been filmed in vertical, but in landscape mode Also clips that were in 1080p landscape and normal vertical. I corrected this in the video segments properties by flipping 180 degrees then using the crop tool by dragging the all the way in and across the diagonal. This method worked perfect.

The issue is resolved however I found out that VLC was the issue and KM player worked fine in playback. It is currently uploading to youtube.

I'm pleased that you've found the solution.

Just as a suggestion in case you're not already using it, if you've got lots of video events that need to be re-oriented/re-sized in the same way, all of those events can be placed on the same track and - in the track header - Track Motion can be employed to re-orient/re-size all of those video events. Track Motion applies to all video events on that track and provides an advantage over manually adjusting each and every event the same way.
