Unsolvable random issue?

Heartomaton wrote on 8/21/2015, 4:04 PM
Alright, so, up until about a week ago, I was able to record game footage with Nvidia's Shadowplay and edit it with Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 11.0 with no problems whatsoever.

Now, though, anything and everything recorded (I've tried both my normal choice of Shadowplay, along with OBS) comes out as nothing but a green screen with audio behind it, like this: http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=34rdv0g&s=8#.VdeRZ_k4RIM

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program, but that didn't work either. Is there any fix for this? Would just biting the bullet and getting a newer version of Vegas/Movie Studio be the solution? Is there anything at all I can do?

Green image always means a codec malfunction.
Either you are capturing with a different codec than you were, or you've lost one from your system.
With complete MediaInfo details from a recent capture, someone may be able to help you straighten it out.

Mmkay, sounds easy enough.

If though, hypothetically, I were about as program-literate as the average pigeon, and needed exact instructions to do that simple task, what would (again, totally hypothetically) those instructions be?

One would start by googling "MediaInfo", a free download from Sourceforge.

Would this be the complete info? It's for some footage I just recorded for this purpose.

Post the results from a file that does work for comparison.

I wonder if the Frame Rate Mode being Variable is causing your issue.

There aren't any that work. All raw footage and finished videos I insert come up green. The last thing I successfully was able to edit was episode four of Tales from the Borderlands, which was just fine. The very next day, I recorded a full playthrough of A Story About My Uncle (which was and is infuriating in and of itself) for about three and a half hours, and the footage all came up green (increasing the nerdrage by about threefold). To make sure it wasn't just ASAMU doing it, I plugged in some of the raw footage of Darksiders that I had finished the week before, and it came up green too, when it was perfectly fine before.

I suggest for now you go back to AVI, which is probably what you were rendering from capture before you changed it.

And keep your files under 4 GB.

Check your capture software's forum for other encoding options available to you. Capture device support is unavailable here.

I didn't change anything, it just went from being fine one day to a see of green the next. I first thought it was a recent update to Shadowplay, which outputs mp4 files in small 20-or-so minute chunks, so that's when I gave OBS a shot, which also puts out mp4, to the same effect.

What version of Quicktime is on your system?
Did you allow it to update automatically?
Heartomaton wrote on 8/23/2015, 10:50 AM
I'll have to check that when I get home later and get back to you.
musicvid10 wrote on 8/23/2015, 10:58 AM
I'll never, ever enable you again by doing your searching for you. That's a promise.
There's a setting here:
http://forums.evga.com/ShadowPlay-framerate-issues-m2164593.aspx

If that, and verifying the proper QT version don't help, you can download and test the Vegas MSP 13 trial, you can roll back your Quicktime, you can reinstall Vegas, or you can remux to vanilla mp4 cfr in AviDemux prior to opening in Vegas.

Have you made sure to turn off GPU acceleration in Vegas??
Did you change or update your video drivers?

Unless someone is having the same issue with your exact OS, Vegas version, and capture software, that's about the most complete advice I think you'll find here.

Best of luck.

Meh.

Went with the trial of Studio 13, and it works just fine. Found the full version on Amazon for 50% off. It arrives Tuesday.

Issue (hopefully) resolved. Much obliged for the help, sir or madam.

Today I'm a sir, and you're welcome.

Make sure you ordered MS Platinum.
Heartomaton wrote on 8/24/2015, 12:42 AM
Well met, timing-based gender blender, I'll upgrade to it later if Studio standalone can't serve my purposes. My videos are fairly low maintenance, just a voice track and some game footage, nothing fancy.

I had the EXACT same problem this past week. I made a post about it and no one can come up with an answer. I know other youtubers are having the same problem also. Green screen, shadowplay and sony vegas movie studio. I tried to changed the name of the compoundplug.dll to compoundplugg and it made the green screen go away but it completely slowed down SMS. I have no idea what the problem is but I really want an answer to it.
