UOT (Utterly Off Topic) rant about explorer

Hey y'all! Thanks for being such good buddies .... ;) Maybe one of you has an answer to this one ...

I usually keep Windows Explorer in "Detail" view so that i can see file sizes and dates while browsing my drives. What's annoying is that, since some recent Windows update, now when i browse to optical media (CD, DVD) Explorer categorizes the view with large sub-headings and lots of extra wasted white space. Views that used to fit easily on my screen are now three screenfulls long and take a lot of scrolling. Selecting mutiple files to copy is much more annoying now.

Anyone know how to shut this off and force Explorer to show optical drive listings the same as hard drive listings?

In explorer, select the "My Computer" folder. Make sure the view is the way you want it (Details, etc.). Then go to Tools\Folder Options then the View tab. There is a big Apply To All Folders button that you need to click. I would then close out Explorer, then open it again.

Now, that "should" fix your problem, if it doesn't, try the above with the "Desktop" folder selected instead of My Computer folder.

Right click a blank spot in the folder
Hover over "Arrange Icons By"
UN-check the "Show in Groups" option on the "Arrange Icons By" sub-menu

This should work for any folder and/or Arrange By option that has a "Show in Groups" feature.

fldave's idea will work also.....as long as you want ALL of your folders to look the same. The above idea allows you to change it folder by folder.

The "show in groups" is the key.

Now if someone could tell me how to keep Explorer from randomly assigning different views in the first place. It constantly insists on changing Control Panel to list view rather than my preferred Icons view. I've change MRUBags and all those other registry settings in order to increase the number of "remembered" views, but it still does it.

Hurray! Show in groups did it. I just hadn't gotten around to exploring all the context menu choices yet. Soooooooo much better now. Thanks!
