Update problems-> then no print to tape

I updated the two VV4s out here, Windows 2000, no troubles. Updated the home version, also Windows 2000, got error message about "msi????.exe error, closing app" when the update got to the point of removing temporary installation files. Finally deleted the entire Sonic Foundry temp and the Vegas directories. Reinstalled vegas 1b, put in serial # again, re-registered. Got it running. Now trying to print to tape. Renders fine then gives error message and shuts down. Any ideas? Recorders are DSR 20 and DSR 30, neither one works AND I lost the ability to control the machines automatically, got manual mode only.

Hope someone has ideas...

Peter

Just went through an upgrade problem with SF Support help that rings a bell when I read your post. I had "uninstalled" VF some time ago and went to V3, then just installed V4 alongside V3. Experienced Capture menu and "... will now close" problems. SF Support suggested that the problem was really with the OS (XP) and that I needed to access all of the SF folders and actually delete them via "Explore" in addition to uninstalling. I.E., clean house and start over.

Uninstalled V3 and V4.
Opened Explore, deleted the entire Sonic Foundry directory, which included VF,V3, and V4 folders, (after saving my .veg files elsewhere).
Downloaded and installed V4b.

Everything now works perfectly.

Not sure if it helps, but I see some similarities. My problem wasn't SF's, it was Window's confusion with all the assorted SF stuff languishing about. Yours . . . maybe???

Do you think installing Norton Firewall/Anti-Virus 2002 could have done something to the WIndows 2000 OS? Vegas 4 and DVD-A were installed before I updated the Norton stuff. Occasionally there is an error message on start up that says certain Windows files have been replaced by unrecognized versions, insert Windows 2000 CD etc. I am a cameraman and sometime editor by trade and have only a rudimentary knowledge of the Windows OS.

Prior to the Norton updates did V4 capture work? My only input would be to take those Windows error messages to Windows support. I'm confident enough in the stability and performance of Vegas, even though I'm too have "rudimentary" knowledge of OSs.

My SF support guy (bless'm) implied that the lingering SF and V3 folders were generating Windows conflicts. And sure enough, when I followed his advice as noted above, V4b has been going as advertised, great.

Did you see the posts elsewhere re preview problems and latent Windows files??
