Update to Win XP from ME?

I hate the instability of WIN ME and would like to upgrade to WIN XP. Should I or shouldn't I? What problems will occur with VF and my current videos? Should I get the home version or pro? Any other suggestions for this computer illiterate? I have recently upgraded my harddrive to 100 GB and RAM to 256...wonderful results with printing to tape etc. But my regular operations daily have glitches that freeze the machine & cause me to turn it totatlly OFF. It doesn't seem to like my Printmaster program or my son's video games (or could it just be my 9 yr old?). Thanks always for your willingness to help! Susan

Windows XP is far more reliable than ME. You will be happy with XP. As far as home vs. pro, I go with Pro, but only because the features that are included in Pro are beneficial to me. For the typical home user, the Home edition is just fine.

Now, should you upgrade? I do not like upgrades--I'd rather back up the files that I want to keep and install the operating system on a clean drive. This might not be an option for you, depending on your skillset.

If you have to take the upgrade path, backup your critical files, since there could be a possibility that you could lose everything.

Is your 100GB drive a 2nd drive in your system? If so, you could copy all the files you want to keep to that drive, then install Windows XP as a fresh install. All of your software will have to be reinstalled if you do this method.

Another note about the upgrade: When upgrading to XP, there is a compatibility wizard that analyzes all of your software to make sure it is compatible. If programs are on this list, they won't work after the upgrade.

Good luck,

Craig
