Upgrade Computer Questions

I just got a new computer that is Dual Quad (3.80 ghz) with 12 GB Ram and have a few questions:

1. Dynamic RAM is default at 360 can i bring this up and how much do you recommend? I'm currently trying it out at 2000.

2. I'm running Line6 Audio and my ASIO settings are at default buffer size 512.
Options are 1024/2048/4096

Default bit depth is 16 options are16/24/32.
What do you recommend?

3. Any other adjustments I can make now with a faster computer like video render ones.

Thanks in advance,
Randini

What version of Vegas are you running? .. 32 bit ? 64 bit? -- I'd assume it's the 64 bit?

There may be other reasons, but the many reason to increase the Dynamic Ram is for use with Dynamic Ram previews .. When your project includes compositing and complex video effects, you may not be able to preview your project at its full frame rate. If you prefer not to prerender your project, you can dedicate a portion of your RAM to cache video frames that cannot be rendered in real time. If you want to use this to "preview" complex effects etc, you'll need to increase the Dynamic Ram. But I find that if you do this there is less RAM for other things and it can effect render times. I run my Dynamic Ram preview at 64

Search this very long discussion John Cline's Rendertest about the effect of Dynamic Ram on render times. I'd be curious what your render times are with John's Rendertest.

Actually, I don't generally use Dynamic Ram Preview instead I prefer to use "Selectively Prerender" in the Tools menu.

Don't know anything about Line6 Audio -- ??

I use dynamic ram alot. I have 8 Gbs RAM but I never set mine higher than 1000MB's because to do so would take RAM away from other Vegas functions - especially rendering.

For video I set my audio 24bits 48khz

Run you buffer settings for your line 6 as low as you can without getting breakup. 512k is probably OK but you should be able to set it at 256k. This setting has to do with latency. If you are recording audio within Vegas then you will have to pay attention to this parameter. If you are not recording audio within Vegas then you should be fine.

Hi Wilgen,

I'm a little confused with the default buffer size for line 6 audio. You mentioned setting this as low as you can and I should get away with 256. let's say you had a military system that was the fasted in the world would you set this higher? Like 2048 or 4096?
