It is simply a file association. A .veg file is a .veg file. Windows determines what app to open the .veg file in.

And when you open VEGAS Pro 20, it should ask if you want to associate VEG files with that version.

This is what 20 is NOT doing for me and I must be missing a step. It just automatically opens in 17. And new projects in 20 are saved in 17...can't figure that out.

Open Windows Explorer, go to a VEG file, right-click the VEG file and choose "Properties" which will open this screen:

Click on "Change" beside "Opens With" and make sure you pick VEGAS Pro 20.

As VEGASDerek said, it's a WINDOWS association (really has nothing to do with VEGAS).

After changing it, VEGAS Pro 17 should then start asking if you want to associate it with VEG files. You will need to say NO.
