However, if you are seriously considering upgrading, you might wait a month or two. If you look at past New Releases, v7 was announced on 8/21/06 and v8 was announced on 7/9/07. I can't tell you when v9 might be announced or available, but there are many threads where people say they just bought the current version a week or two prior to a new version coming out. Just a thought.
So is waiting for version 9 worthwhile? I think version 9 will have the new 'titler' that is already in Vegas Pro 8, and some high definition updates. And some new themes vor DVDA, of course.
Thanks for all the responses. I use Movie Studio Platinum.
That's the link I needed to answer my question. The features mentioned in the link seem like it's worth the upgrade but the post is about a year old and I'm just curious if Sony will be coming out with Version 9 soon.
I have no idea, but my guess would be yes. I started out with VMS6, bought the 7 Platinum upgrade and 8P as well so I'm sure I'll be buying 9P when it's available.

That was I was getting at, based on the Press Release dates for 7 and 8, one could figure that 9 is just around the corner. But as with stocks, past performance doesn't guarantee future results. I just wanted to give you the information so you could decide whether to go ahead and buy 8 now or wait a couple months for 9.
Thanks for the response.. I think I'll wait for version 9. Version 7 is doing everything I "need" it to do right now. I did see Pinnacle's latest software package at Best Buy and it included a green screen canvas. I thought, it was just a marketing gimic... but it did make me pick up the box and check it out. (;
I hope the next version of Platinum doesn't do anything this cheezy and just provides us with some great plugins or features we can really use. ((:
Green screen cheezy? I wouldn't think so. Although the size included with Pinnacle would only be good for head shots, it's a great way to introduce newbies to more advanced editing features.
Pinnacle has always been aimed at new users. The only two new features that caught my eye was the new Montage and Boris Grafitti for text.
Montage feature is great. It's nothing more that a predesigned multi-image/video wall type template. The user just drags a few files to numbered slots and the app does the rest. Unfortunately the user has no other controls.
I never found the Boris Grafitti stuff. Supposed to have more text animation effects.
Sony just released DVD Architect 5 which is a free update to Vegas Pro 8 users. I haven't found any new feature list, but it now supports Hidef BlueRay burning. Perhaps DVDA 5 Studio will be included in the next Vegas Studio version, too.

DVDA 5 is only "announced" at this point -- not actually available. I think it was originally announced with a planned June release date, but I think now the release date is specified as "this summer".
By cheezy I was just being facetious. (; Pinnacle does have some nice features built in, but I just HATE the workflow. LIke I've mentioned before I purchased the very basic version of Pinnacle movie studio just for the anti shake feature.
I'd be very interested to know what other features are added to DVDA 5. I don't need Blue ray burning right now. Nobody I know or do video work for uses blue ray which also means that I'll have to upgrade my AV workstation DVD drive. I don't want to do anything to it right now because tho it's a P4HT box it's rock solid no problems what so ever and I don't want to fix it cause it ain't broke. (;
The only thing I can see Blue Ray doing for me ,right now, is archiving.
