Upgrade question 6.0 to 9.0

I recently upgraded to MSP PRO PAK 9.0
I tried to open an old project and got an error message of sorts that this wouldn't work... What do I have to do to open an older project in the new 9.0?

Also... this is a brain cramp question... I am about to render an MPEG2 (widescreen)

It says that i won't get audio with it. What do I do to render an audio? The choices listed are:
MPEG1
MPEG2
mov
rm
avi
wmv

it's been awhile, but I seem to remember having a .wav choice and some others.... Is that just in DVDA?
And why couldn't I just render it in .wmv and get audio and video in one render?

I have made chapter markers and finally gotten the video to match up with the audio after hours of splitting and moving video increments at a time.... (whew!)

I think I'm just worn out and not thinking, but I'm sure one of you guys will set me straight in no time....

When the template description says 'video stream only', then there is no audio. In other cases, like dvd default, there will be audio.

Your suggestion is taken in the spirit that it was given... I will check out those tutorials.
I get in a hurry, I guess and it seems easier to go to the forum when peop-[le are there... handy... I don't mean to take undue advantage.
