UPGRADE TO VEGAS MOVIE STUDIO 10

I have just upgraded from Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 8 to Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 10. Is there a problem reading projects made in 8 into 10. I have nearly finished a project on 8 and want to add the final touches in 10 but it only reads in 39% of my current project and will go no further. I thought anything created on 8 would automatically be able to go into 10. Any advice or info would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

Often with programs like Vegas Movie Studio, it's best to finish your project in one version and then start a new project in the other.

The core programming of these programs can be significantly different from version to version (it's not Microsoft Word, after all) and project files often don't transfer from one version to another without some buggy behavior.

Newer versions normally open older project files without any major difficulty. However, the reverse is not true. Once you've saved a .vf file in a newer version you'll never be able to open it in an older version again. So, go ahead and try your version 8 .vf file in Vegas 10 if you'd like, but make sure you save a version 8 backup copy first, just in case you decide you need to go back to version 8 to finish the project.

Recreate the right project settings on 10, and then copy/paste the whole timeline. Don't try to import the project if there's such an incompatibility.

Just to add a little to what Eugenia said, open your project in VMS8. With VMS8 open, launch VMS10 with the desired project settings, select all the events in VMS8 and copy, switch to the VMS10 window and paste.

Thanks for all the info guys I tried the copy & paste method but 10 just stopped working and created a report which I assume has gone to Sony Support. I got an error message about low memory which I can only assume was me copying the contents from 8 to 10. The project I am working on is a full blown movie which runs to about 1hr:49mins so maybe the file is just to big to copy. I have 4gb RAM on a 32bit system which, from what i am reading can't be fully utilised on a 32bit system. Just one other thing that bothers me about version 10 is that it can take a long time to start up. Is this normal ??.
