Upgrade to Vegas5+DVD: HW requirements?

Hi all...

Am considering upgrading from Vegas MS to Vegas5+DVD. However, I'd like to get some input as to whether my development PC is adequate enough to make the jump worthwhile.

1.8HGz, 512Mb RAM, 750G hardrive space.

I've been using MS on this machine with virtually no problems. Will I be disappointed if I upgrade to V5+DVD?

I spoke to a guy last week who was running it on a P3 833 and, other than the obscenely long render times, he had no problems running it.

*WHEW* I"m glad i've got a P3 866 so my render times are a lot shorter ;)

Vegas will run on way old hardware. It's good that way. Of course, it's better on something faster and spiffier, but the system described at the top of this thread should be more than sufficient.

Like Mike said, a faster CPU would help by reducing rendering times, otherwise a 1.8 should be fine for the editing phase, except perhaps with the playback speed when viewing on a external monitor. A slower machine can cause preview to drag. If Vegas 4 runs fine on your system, so should version 5.

When I first started using Vegas I ran it on a P3-667 with 256mb ram. No problems editing at all (and that was with the Huffy codec, not DV!)

There's 3 ways to answer this question of "will my computer run Vegas + DVD fine."

1) The straight answer: Yes it will.

2) The funny answer: You didn't mention if you have a DVD burner so DVDA might not be much help there.

3) The obivious answer: Download the free trials & see for yourself.
