Upgrade...Vegas 6 to 7

Hi all,
I am going to make the upgrade to 7.0 from 6.0 and was wondering what the procedure is or where to look for it and if there are any horror stories or things I should watch for during this change-over. I have an extensive catalog of presets and projects that I do not want to lose or alter so any info would be great pertaining to this endeavor. Looking forward to a response, thanks.

I'll let other folks handle the preset issue. I have maybe 4 or 5 presets total set up, and they're all rendering templates. It only takes me half a minute to recreate them so i don't worry if they're preserved or not. Other than that, i've never saved any presets for anything so i'm kinda clueless about them. I couldn't even tell you if my rendering templates have carried over across an upgrade as i've never paid any attention to it.

As far as the rest of the upgrade process is concerned, SONY makes this about as flawless and effortless as it can get. Install the new version and everything's ready to go. All older projects will open fine in the new version.

One thing to watch out for is that once you've saved a project in the new version, that .veg file cannot be opened in the old version anymore. So, it's a good idea to make backup copies of the version 6 .veg files and keep them safe somewhere before opening them in version 7.

As long as you leave Vegas 6 on your machine (they'll co-exist just fine), your render template presets will carry over to Vegas 7.
I just did this last week so I know it does this.

I sure wish there was a way to save these particular presets. How about it Sony??

Other presets such as FX chains can be handled with the Preset Manager.

To be on the safe side, leave Vegas 6 on your machine for a few weeks until you're positive that you have everything moved over.

Thanks for the quick response and I will backup all my .veg files, I had not thought of that. I also did not know I could run both programs on the same machine which will help with the changeover greatly. Hope to see you in the threads and thanks again.

If you're not in a rush to upgrade, I'd guess that 8 will be out sometime in the next few months. Just a guess though, but Vegas Studio 8 was just released, that's why I'm guessing there will be a Vegas 8 in the near future.
