There are a few resellers offering VEGAS 6 + DVD BOXED UPGRADE at a good price...

Such as? Tell us who they are and you'll find out if they're legit or not.

What is Platinum to Production?

jrazz wrote on 5/9/2006, 4:26 PM
Platinum is the version you can buy at Best Buy for around 99 bucks and is not full featured. Based on the description (Vegas 6+DVDA3) I would assume by production he means the version we have.

For the upgrade from Vegas Studio (or Video Factory) to the full version of Vegas + DVD, all you need is a serial number from Vegas Studio (or Video Factory). The software you are upgrading from doesn't even have to be installed on your computer. You certainly don't need to have an older full version installed, or you would be upgrading from an older version of Vegas, not from Vegas Studio (or Video Factory).

Amazon, eCost, PCMall, MacMall etc.

I am more concerned whether or not the advertised Production Upgrade will upgrade the Platinum Version to Production (Bundle)

So can I safely assume then that this good price is for pirated software? Why not look on the gray bar above under "software" -select Vegas and over to the right you will see "shop for an upgrade"- it will tell you exactly what can be upgraded. If that is too confusing for you, here is the link

What kind of question is that?

Does Amazon sell pirated software? Look the question may be unclear. Some apparently reputable and legitimate resellers are selling a boxed "Vegas+DVD Production Suite - Upgrade package" at a price less than Sony. Nothing new or unusual there. It was a simple question aobut whether or not anyone had any experience with this particular upgrade and knew if it would upgrade the Platinum Edition. Sorry if the question it was too mysterious or cryptic for jrazz.
Nothing needs to be read into it.

Thanks

Additionally, I am familiar with the link. It provides NO information for upgrading FROM Platinum just TO platinum.

Take a look at the bottom left corner- I think it will tell you everything you need to know- matter of factly- here is a quote:

Upgrade to Vegas+DVD from Movie Studio

As for the other remark. You were not willing to share the reseller and usually there is only 1 reason for that- the seller is not legitamite. No need to get all bent out of shape. If you would have simply posted that the software is at this web address- you could have gotten an answer a lot faster that is more geared toward your situation. As a general rule, the less information you share, the less help you will get.

Your Amazon upgrades are likely to be from a previous version of the full Vegas software, rather than Vegas MovieStudio.

A quick email to Sony Support should get you the defacto answer.
JohnnyRoy wrote on 5/10/2006, 2:09 PM
Technically there is no such thing as an upgrade, just an “upgrade price”. The software you get is a full version that does not check for any previous version (which I have always applauded Sony for because the way Microsoft handles upgrades simply stinks!). So, to my knowledge, the checking is done at the time of sale just like an academic purchase.

I know on the Sony site they check your serial number and tell you right away if you are eligible for the upgrade. I’m not sure how it works on Amazon and other sites. I guess if they sell it to you without checking, you have beat the system so to speak. I would imagine that Amazon will ask you for your serial number at some time during or after the purchase. You might want to send Amazon an email and ask them about this practice or contact Sony. The prices I saw on Amazon were not for the Movie Studio version but upgrades from the Full version of Vegas only.

Seriously, thanks all for the advice. I did contact Sony a couple of days ago but they couldn't help with the question I posed here. Am still looking for an email for pre-sales for Amazon.

j razz; I'm not bent out of shape. You just didn't have any information for me relating to my question and seemed to go off in another direction. If you needed more information so you could offer me constructive help, I'd be glad to if you asked. Thanks for your genuine concern and thorough instruction. You make a great teacher.

Don,
Now I am curious, did the offer on the link I provided above (specifically the one on the lower left corner) not answer your question? It says that it is from any version of Movie Studio to Vegas+ DVDA. Is that what you were asking for?

Welcome to the forum- I hope you do get a great upgrade price and make the crossover! (By the way, I used to use Pinnacle and now I wonder how I ever let myself go through that torture).

donaldvf: Welcome to this forum, you will find a real wealth of expertise in all facets of Vegas and quite a bit more.

Try not to get upset with replies from people who can't resist a condescending reply ("if that is too confusing for you"). Those are few and far between compared to many other forums.

...if that is too confusing for you...

Wow. I didn't mean to be condescending. All I was saying there is that what I wrote may be confusing (that is why I included the link). I should have just went a head and erased that. Again, I didn't mean that in a condescending way and I hope by the rest of my comments on this thread and on this forum that context would show otherwise.

Again, apologies for the way it came across.
