MSP15 project underway. no problem working with 2K ProRes files. upgraded to MSP17. won't open the prores files. no notice by Magix in all the upgrade promo. useless upgrade!
thanks for the suggestion. all boxes Unticked however problem remains. will not recognize/import ProRes files into project. i can still continue with my project in MSP15 as ProRes works just fine (though i wish i could save in ProRes).
if Magix/Vegas can't support ProRes it's pretty much the end of the line for MSP as so many cameras shoot ProRes, and Atomos recorders are used everywhere with every camera imaginable...
in my case i've received a large batch of scanned film archives, 8mm and 16mm, scanned in 2K Pro Res. they're great, and MSP15 works with them. just wanted the slow-mo and colour grading upgrade, but seems like MSP17 is useless.
sorry, i'm not allowed to share the footage. however, i have no problem with MSP15, so it's something about MSP17. i've noticed other threads saying that ProRes is now not supported. something about Quicktime. but, again, quicktime and MSP15 work just fine.
Hi @K_T I can confirm that ProRes video files will not open in Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 17. I just did some testing in many different versions of Vegas Movie Studio Platinum. ProRes opens OK in the last couple of previous versions, except for version 17. I'm not sure if this is deliberate or a bug ???
ProRes definitely works in Vegas Pro 18. If working with ProRes is really important for you, I would recommend asking for a refund and then upgrading to Vegas Pro 18 Edit. There is much better support for ProRes in Vegas Pro!
I have sent a message to my contact at Magix and have asked for a answer about this problem. I will report back when I get info to clarify if this is a bug or a deliberate choice. My gut feeling is that this has been a deliberate choice, due to other codecs that have been removed recently due to licensing costs increasing too much.
The use of qt7plug.dll got broken in VMSP17 Build 204 which is why we are having the problem with some mov files. It worked okay in the initial build 143 and subsequent build 179. But then build 204 came along and broke it.
I find some 'mov' files, such as from iPhones, open in VMSP17 Build 223 with the so4compoundplug.dll. So very interesting that VP18 is using it for mov files that need QT but VMSP17 doesn't? I wonder if it's possible to force VMSP17 to use it instead?
EDIT: I've tried switching off QT in Options\Preferences\Deprecated Features but it makes no difference with the file I downloaded from @FayFen's link.
I can confirm that this is definitely a bug. Support was not dropped for ProRes in v17. Magix developers are now aware of this bug, after I reported it to them and they will investigate.
