But I would keep a copy of the original project file just in case something corrupts in the transition.

Just to emphasize Steve's advice, any project file saved in a newer version will never open in an older version ever again. Therefore it is *essential* to keep a backup copy of the .vf file saved from the older version.

First, I assume you are talking Vegas Movie Studio ... not Vegas Pro.

Second, You can always import a project from a previous version of Vegas into a newer version ... BUT ... ALWAYS RE-NAME IT when you save it from the new version.

If you somehow mess up and need to re-open the file in the old version .. you will be UNABLE to do that once you have saved it from the new version. Even if you don't change a thing .. and you save it with the original name .. you will NEVER be able to open it in that old version again. If you have the original version saved you can still open and work on it with either the original or the new version of Vegas.

Yeah I was talking about the movie studio and not pro.

Thanks to all for the information. This will make the upgrade a lot easier.
