Upgrading from Vegas Pro 12 to Vegas Pro Suite 14

Sebe wrote on 12/20/2016, 6:11 PM

First I have a problem getting my Vegas Pro 12 to format to mpg4 without leaving a .tmp extension on the end. I've tried several times but i can't remove it. I was able to format to a .mov and get a great render. My film has been accepted to a large festival in England and I need to convert it to a DCP file but my .mov with not convert in the conversion program provided by the festival. It pixilates at 1:05 min and won't accept some of my settings like 30fps. This is a CG3d animated film that took 3 years to make. I was considering upgrading my software to the next highest level of Vegas Pro at the Vegas Pro Suite 14. Obviously I have had my film shelved and am just starting to enter festivals and am a little out of touch with some of the formats that are asked for. One suggestion was a Quicktime Pro Res file for the conversion. I have not checked to see if the Pro 12 version will format into that version but my concern is I am very satisfied with the quality of my CG3d in the .mov file I have. I am not comfortable with the new settings I will need to make to duplicate that same quality. I was wondering if anyone has purchased new software, obviously two generations up from my last purchase, and loaded an extensively edited, multiple part, file and score into a new program with success without having to begin the process anew. I doing this because a) I am hoping to get a frickin' mpg 4 without a .tmp tag at the end and 2) I will need the upgrade at some future date unless I decide to go Mac because of these issues of formatting I am facing.

Thanks but does it have the ability to import my file from a Vegas Pro 12 program

Opening previous VP12 project? Yes, as always. Also, you can have both versions in one system.

And I'm using Win10 (free update from Win7) right now. Personally, I never had any issues with the un-renamed .tmp extension... but never know if that could happened in VP12 installed in Win10. Currently I'm using VP13.453 and VP14.201 (just updated to VP14.211).

Thank you very much for your comment. I just tried a new render changing a few formats here and there. Same thing ending in .tmp. I don't have to tell you how much that screws up a file.

You can try download the trial of VP14 and see if this issue fixed.

Thanks but I believe I have found a simple way to solve the problem and one that was suggested earlier but I was to alarmed when I tried it the first time. Some suggested I simply rename the mpg.tmp name by removing the .tmp extension. When I tried the first time, a message came up suggesting i might damage the file or end the world😜. So I stopped. A gentleman just suggested that on another comment and I tried it this time since i have a folder full of mpg.tmp files to fall back on and the renaming warning came up, i ignored it, and the file played perfectly. Problem solved. Hopefully I can convert this into a DCP file which is my ultimate goal. The .mov file would not fully convert. Thank you for your comments and have a happy holiday.

You're welcome 😊.. Glad to hear the renaming works... Good Luck & all the best for your Film Festival. Happy Holiday to you too.
