Uploading issues for my DVD-R disks. Help Please!

I've tried importing my home videos (DVD-R disks) to my brand new Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 8.0, and I've been experiencing very frustrating problems involving the uploading of my home movies to the program.
I go to upload the disks (File / Import / DVD Camcorder Disk...). I select my source, my destination, all that. Hit "OK"...
Something comes up saying,
"An error occured while opening one or more files. The file is most likely corrupted or of an unknown format."
I've tried at least five different home movies I've made, all on DVD-R disks, and the same thing has happened with all of them. Sometimes, a very small portion of the movie (approximately one sec.) will go into the program, but that's it., and this has only happened about two of the five times I've tried it.
In desperation, I also tried uploading the .vob file itself, ut that didn't wok either.
These disks are not damaged. They play fine on the computor and DVD player. There have never been any problems with them... well until now.
If someone out there knows what's wrong please help me! I'm confused and frustrated and wondering whether it was wise to buy the software.

Thank you!

This issue was posted a while ago. I remember someone wrote you must first copy the dvd contents to your hard drive using Windows Explorer. This may take a while. When done, you should be able to import it in Vegas.

Ok.
So how would I go about doing this?
