URL Command

I have inserted a URL command at the end of a rendered .wmv file. I want my web site to launch after the video plays. From the help files:

"Windows Media Player 9 will ignore metadata commands unless the Run script commands when present check box is selected on the Security tab of the player's Preferences dialog. Be sure to instruct your audience to select this check box before playing your file."

Is the "Run script commands when present check box" selected by default, do most folks have this selected?

I have it turned off on mine. The reason: I don't want extra stuff coming up on my screen that I did not solicit. I would rather have the choice to visit your website than made to visit it.

Now, don't take that the wrong way, but if you have a good video and splash your web address up after the video, I would be inclined to visit. If you forced me to visit your site, I would click out of it without giving it a second chance. This is just my personal preference, so take it for what its worth.

I agree comletely. Show me an option to click to your website and i'm likely to follow. Force your website open on my screen and you've dropped to the level of spammers.Having someone else control my screen (browser) is annoying, disturbing, and in general unacceptable.

In my case, this is for a private party invitation, if I can disturb a few friends, great! I have an email invitation with links to both a video message and a web page with more party details. The video URL command would also open the web page. Since this function needs to be enabled in your media player, it seems that it would not work anyway.

Why don't you launch the website first, then force-feed them the video? or allow them the option of loading the video after the page is displayed?

I am doing something like that. I am sending an email notice every week for a month. The first was with a link to the just the web site followed by a video message each week.
