USB Audio Capture Level ?

I'm using an analog cam into a Belkin USB Videobuss II adapter. The audio coming in is always too high and distorting. I've changed the audio coming from my cam to now go through the line input of my sound card so I can control the input level when captureing. But I'm curious why the video capture 3.0 window will bring up a mixer with sliders on it to control the inputs, but they are fixed. It says Master input mix and Pin line input mix. But you can not adjust them.

Is that just a default window that would let you adjust your sound card inputs through the windows mixer, only its no good on a USB input ????

Thanks,
Paul

The USB input is a "digital input", therefore it means the source of your distortion is not there, and usually digital inputs are not adjustable within your PC although they will appear in the mixer section, so you can see that audio is entering that input via the meters. The source of the distortion has to be before the audio get's converted to digital. So even if you could reduce the level going into the USB port, it would still be distorted, but just lower in level. Your distortion is either happening on the input of your camera or on the analog input of the belkin. Adjust either the output of your camera or the analog input of your belkin if there is one or reduce the level being recorded into your camera.

Thanks Rednroll,

I went to Radio Shack and bought an in-line volume control and put it between the camcorder and the Belkin USB adapter and it worked perfect. The camcorder did not have a volume output control.

Thanks,
