No. The USB connection does not pass a DV signal. What you get is low resolution and very poor quality. You wouldn't want to use it for anything.

Spend $20 and get a firewire port.

Thanks fo the reply. I think i can miss € 20 (I live in Europe) to buy a card...
But just out of curiosity: would it technically work? I mean, would Vegas recognize my camera (sony hc40) and capture anyway?

Technically, it could be made to work, but would probably require a substantial EPROM upgrade to your camera, if the camera manufacturer was even willing to rewrite the software for the camera. USB 2 can carry data well enough to pass a DV signal. However, it just isn't done, so no one uses it, and since no one uses it, there isn't any demand for it, and since there isn't any demand for it, it hasn't been done ... etc.

As far as Vegas being able to capture DV through USB, i suppose it would work if your camera manufacturer also supplied a USB driver for the camera that made it look like a DV source. Vegas wouldn't care what it was or what port it was coming through. However, see the point above.

So, with the hardware you have now, it isn't possible.
