USB Streaming - No Audio

Crowley wrote on 7/23/2004, 1:15 PM
I'm using USB stream to capture video from my Sony MiniDV Camera and the video comes streams just fine. However, the audio does not seem to be there. Is there something that I need to do to configure the software or camera to ensure that the audio streams with the video. Will USB allow you to stream both audio and video or do I need a separate cable. I would think that it would be able to stream both.

Please help.

Thanks

Get a firewire cable and use that instead of USB.

I don't have a firewire port. USB works, I've seen people on here talking about it. I just don't have something configured right with the software.

If anyone knows what I am doing wrong, please let me know.

With USB you get a low-res MPEG version of the video. If you're just playing around with snapshots or little web videos then i guess you could call that working. If you want to do any serious editing then it's not an option. A firewire card and cable should be less than $50 total at an expensive store. You could probably get them on eBay for under $25.

Are you using Windows 98/98SE?

Sound is not supported via USB in Windows 98 or 98SE.

Do you have any other capture software? For example, my Sony Digital 8 camera came with an application called Pixela. I don't use it, but I did load it to see what it would do. I was able to capture audio and video via USB-2 using this program. Perhaps that would at least verify the ability to capture sound in another application.

I don't use Screenblast anymore, so I can't point you to exact menu choices, but I'd look for capture settings and see if you have "USB sound device" (or similar wording) as an available choice for audio input. When I captured to Pinnacle Studio via this route, I had to explicitly select the device.
