Use HD video on DVD output

I apologize in advance if this falls into the "dumb question" category....

I use HD footage from Canon vid camera, create project in VMS, then create BD output from DVDAS...no problem, projects come out great. Problem is just got back from big family trip, will be making HD video, but very few of the folks have BD player, so they want DVD output instead....Is there a way to create project so I can output as BD for those who have the hardware, but down-convert it so I can output for DVD for those who don't???

You do this by choosing different templates for render, one for BluRay, and one for DVD.
Really, that's all there is to it.

But just to be clear:

There is no such thing as a Hi-def DVD. A DVD is a DVD. It's standard definition video. You can put BluRay video on a DVD, but then you can't play it on a DVD player.

Is this what you're trying to do?

Steve...that's exactly my goal...to be able to use the same video for a project that I can output to BD for those that have the equipment to play it, or to DVD for those that don't.

When you render standard definition you'll probably want to make sure you choose the DVD Architect Widescreen template to match the 16:9 of the HD version. Those who have old 4:3 CRT screens will see it with black bars on the top & bottom whether you render it widescreen or not. But if you don't render it widescreen then those who watch it on a more modern widescreen TV will see black bars on top, bottom, and both sides, with a tiny picture in the middle.

Just a "thank you..". I just completed a project and output to both BD and DVD. Both burns came out perfectly and projects are great in both formats ....and lotsa happy relatives! Thanks!
