Useful little addition

It would be useful to have a small indication (little green tick maybe) on the media window clips to show which has been added to the timeline. I know the timeline shows the clip id but if you have used clips out of media window order is is not quickly obvious which has been already used.

You have the "Use Count" in the Project Media...

Thanks for the reply, I mainly use thumbnails in the media window which does not show use count. To me some indication on the thumbnail (I had this in Power Director) is a great feature I miss.

@andyrpsmith This has been asked for many times, as many of us would like this thumbnail indication as found in most other editors.

My understanding is that whilst it would seem easy to implement it actually isn't. This is because of the very old area of code involved and any changes could have serious effects. But maybe one day when this area of code is rewritten we may get our wish.

Some users have found a more powerful way in Vegas of displaying unused media using the Smart Bin. You create a search condition that instructs Vegas to list unused media. This creates a results search bin with the unused media. You can right-click on the results search bin and select add to Smart Bin. The Smart Bin automatically maintains itself. When you drag a media to the timeline, the media is automatically removed from the Smart Bin. When you add media to a project, but don't place it on the timeline, the media shows up automatically in the Smart Bin. The Smart Bin is a lot easier to manage and inspect unused media than looking for green dots on thumbnails in a large database. There's a long list of properties you can use to search on. These can be compound conditions. More information is in online Help.

Thanks @Robert Johnston

I work differently. I use Custom Bins to split up my project into its various stages or areas. Each bin has a "TBU" sub bin into which prospective material is initially placed. When I decide to use it and place it on the timeline I move it from its TBU bin to its parent bin. Material that isn't used eventually gets removed from its TBU bin to a "Not Used" custom bin. I never delete items from a project as you never know when you may need something to fill a gap or help carry your narration.

We all develop our own way of managing projects. Vegas's Custom Bins are the nerve centre of my small projects. Even if we one day get the "green ticks" on used items I will still probably use my TBU sub bins.

I'd love the green ticks... seeing things at a glance helps me since that is what I've been doing for years before Vegas.

But I can wait....

We have had this request for a while...

The team is holding off on implementing this in favor of a large rework of the Project Media window.
