Using an Audio Editor - Audacity

When I send the audio from an avi clip in Screenblast to the audio editor (I am using Audacity, open source) and, it comes over as a wav file. I manipulate it then import it as a wav file (Audacity only saves it to its proprietary format). Do other audio editors automatically change the audio in the clip when saving if you chose “open in editor” rather than “open a copy”? How do I get it synced up perfectly? I am working with interview files so lip sync is important.

Am I right in deducing that the sound FX in Screenblast are only applied to the whole project? It is not possible to isolate a section in the envelope and apply the FX only there? If it is, how do you do that?

Some higher end editors (Premiere, Final Cut Pro) have built-in audio editors that allow you to manipulate the sound right on the sound track.

Because Screenblast opens the audio in a separate program, it creates a new sound file with the manipulated sound track.

The best way to sync the sound is to find a segment of the timeline where you can open your video clip all the way to its beginning and then do the same with your new audio track. Zoom in very tight and using the timeline cursor as a guide, line the two up and press G to group them. From then on, whatever you do to your video, you also do to your audio.

It's a bit of a workaround but, hopefully, you don't have two many clips you need to do this with!

If you use Sound Forge, the WAV file is automatically added back to the Screenblast project as a Take. This way it syncs up perfectly on the timeline. I’m not sure what happens with other auto editors but it sounds like Audacity is forcing you to export it as a WAV file and then you have to manually add it back to the timeline. Even so, you want to add it as a Take so that it lines up perfectly with what’s already there.

You are correct that audio FX can only be added to an entire track and not an event. You need Vegas to do that.
