using dedicated dvd drive (AO3)

With all of the discussion here about burning dvd's, if you use a product like the Panasonic A03 can you simply send it an avi file you finished in vv3, let it's software convert your file to mpeg and produce your dvd that way? I guess I don't completely understand how this dvd burn works. Does the ao3 have it's own mpeg encoder, or does it accept encoders from all over the planet?

TIA, John

I have the Panasonic DVR-103, which is identical to the A03 in specs (as far as I can tell). It came bundled with DvdIt! software for creating DVDs. I don't think you can just "send it" an .AVI file and have it burn the DVD for you.
