Using HVR-DR60 (SONY)

I recetly bought HVR-DR60 hard disk and Sony HVR-HD 1000N Video camera, I already have some videos recorded on HVR-DR60, my main problem is that once I plug it into my PC:
Model: HP d4990y
Windows Vista' Home Premium +service pack 1
Memory: 4GB
System type: 32-bit
I use a 6x6 iLink cable to transfer my data, however my computer pops up the following message:

Device Driver softwware was not succesfully installed/not found.
-unidentified Device- Device unplugged.
AVC Device- ready to use
Sony HVR-DR60 AV/C tape recorder/player ready to use.

May somebody have Vista drivers available for the DR60? Or knew where I can get it. At "SONY.COM" I can't to find.
I would greatly apreciate any help annyone willing to offer.

Can you see the DR60 as a basic drive?
I've used one with Vegas more than once but not under Vista, only XP.
If you get nowhere do you have access to an XP system?
If so you could use that to image the DR60 to a folder on a portable HDD and then mount that on your Vista system.
Also check Sony's web site, they may have Vista drivers available for the DR60.

Wow...

Yea DR60 got recognized on XP. Could you also expand a bit on how to create the image and transfer it to my PC with Vista?

Thank you for your help too! A lot!

This may or may not be your fix - I had a similar issue when I first used my HVR-15 deck. (Note: I do not use the Vegas Capture utility, I use HDV split). Further - I do not use Vista.

If I recall, the av/c tape device is the HDV device driver in Windows. Go back into Vegas' internal capture and click on the preferences tab and find the camera under the IEEE 1394/MPEG2-TS Device drop down

Copy the entire contents of the DR60 using the normal windows copy into a folder. Then use the Import Disk option in Vegas. Note that you do not "capture" from the DR60.

"Some NLEs, such as Sony Vegas 7 (version 7.0c and later) and GrassValley EDIUS Pro4.5, have an import module that lets you import files directly from the HVR-DR60 to your PC’s hard drive. During the import process, these software will merge all divided .M2T files into a single, seamless .M2T file."

Aside from that I really wish Sony would put this kind of information in one easy to find friggin place. At their recent HDNA roadshow they were saying "Just go to www.sony.com.au and get the latest ....". Needless to say NONE of the software they were talking about is on that site.
Not that any of this even remotely has anyhting to do with SCS, one of the few parts of Sony that can at least get their stuff in the one easy to find place.

I have that program (R-util) but it does not recognize step 2, "Select the connected HVR-DR60 or CF card drive." My PC does not recognize the DR60. Will try to copy as farrs said. Hope that works. It seems the operational system is the key.

For certain, if you cannot see the DR60 as another disk mounted under Windoz you're going nowhere.

"Note that you do not "capture" from the DR60."

Technically, you don't "capture" from a DV camera either. Capture is a leftover term from capturing analog video into digital formats.
