using maps in vegas movie studio

mapman wrote on 8/5/2009, 1:12 PM
I make lots of maps (hence the nickname).

I would like to add a moving (animated) map display.
You know the kind I'm talking about - Indian Jones traveling by plane, seeing the plane flying with an underlying map bleeding through with highlight of the track they're traveling... Something along those lines.

Anyone done it?
Thanks.

Do you mean "Vegas Movie Studio"?

Only SD at the moment, but it may give you some ideas.

Yep, sorry, I mean Studio.

I found Heroglyph by proDAD. It looks great, but at over $200 I was hoping for something easier. I do a lot of maps though, so I may get it. Trying out the demo now.

Thanks for Mapliner. Tell me more about it. How do you use it in VMS? I brought in the stills at something like 0.08 seconds in preferences, no cross fade, saved it as a new track then, sped it up (or down) to make it work. Looks decent.

Haven't tried Heroglyph yet.

It's a stand-alone application. Use it to create the series of stills first, then import these into Vegas.

Does Vegas Studio now have the import still image sequence function? Try going to File / Open, browse to the first still. Does a checkbox appear at the bottom of the dialog for importing a sequence? If so, this makes for a much easier way to bring the images in to your timeline. They'll end up as a single event just like a video clip.

Yes, it's there in both v7 and v8 Platinum Editions. I'm sure v9 has it as well.

Oh, thank you! Yes the sequence option is there in Platinum 9.
That was one of the best tips I've recieved, not just for this issue, but I would have run into that many times before I figured it out as I usually do not go through Import Media, just explore and trimmer or drop in. Just import, comes in as a video track, then use Control drag endpoint to speed up or slow down, and you're good to go.

I did a test creation - video of plane flying, map with route (sped up and zoom and panned with some keyframes), lower plane sounds, soft music, and it looks good.

I've only been using VMS Plat 9 for 2 days, but I like the concept. Will be upgrading to Vegas Pro soon I think.

Mapman,

Get Heroglyph Rapid for free right now @

http://declic-video-fx.com/language/en-US/Home/ID/881/Heroglyph-RAPID-for-free-unlimited-time-without-any-restriction.aspx

Declic video is a wonderful site, mostly dedicated to Pinnacle Studio and Hollywood HFX, but also lots of information on proDAD software (including tutorials too.

Cool thanks Mark.

They had offered that to me as well, with a good discount to up to the pro version.

I'm still learning the use of the Rapid version and how it works in VMS. Looks very good though. I'm excited about it. Its exactly what I've looked for.
