Using Pinnacle 700-USB with Vegas6

I am trying to use the Pinnacle 700-USB video capture device with Vegas 6. Vegas 6 sees the device but whenever it tries to connect to the device it says the device can't be opened because it is in use by another user/application when the only app open is Vegas6. What would be preventing Vegas6 from connecting to the device? I did see a post talking about some other issues that related to de-installing the Pinnacle software but those seemed to indicate they were for the firewire connections. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I've got a feeling this wont work - pinnacle usually has proprietary drivers and there stuff tends not to play with other stuff too well.

Maybe one of the gurus' around here will chime in?

Dude, Get away from Pinnacle anything. Trust me. It is all crap. I'm not the only one here who will tell you this.

Pinnacle ? Best thing about it is that it drove me to discover something else. Ended up here with the Vegas crowd. Anyway, it sounds like my gradeschool report card:

1) Does not play well with others
2) Talks and disturbs others
3) Does not use time wisely
.....

Seriously, you should use the pinnacle application to capture the file - in AVI if you can. Then maybe Vegas can import that.

I have the plextor 402 USB capture tool, and use their dinky consumer grade tool to capture. Vegas and DVD3 can handle the resulting MPEG. DVDSP3 won't though.

Well, the only thing I wanted was a device to be able to read DVD into vegas for editing purposes. And the Pinnacle device was the only one that I could find at Best Buy (don't have much in the way of computer stores that handle audio/visual where I am). But from the looks of it, I might be better off ordering a device that can play well with Vegas. Thanks for the input.

Don't give up yet. I made the same mistake and bought a Pinnacle Moviebox for analog capture. It works fine with the software that came with it. So I just fire up that software and capture my clips as AVI. Then close Pinnacle when I'm finished and start Vegas. Don't let the two programs use common files or hardware at the same time. I don't even let them run at the same time... sigh... It works well for me.

I don't find the convenience of capturing directly into Vegas worth buying new hardware.

Of course your mileage may vary.
Cheers,
