using plugins "live" with vegas

I want to put plugins live on inputs as I record directly into my soundcard. Like if I plug my bass direct into my echo mona I want to put some compression on it as I record.
Is this possiable with vegas?
I have tooled around with it and I can't see anyway to do this.
Am I going to have to switch to protools or logic if I want this ability?

Vegas does not do this, there is talk that maybe it might happen in the 3.0 release.

As a side note it is usually a very bad idea to record effects along with the direct signal to the same track. It is better to record a dry signal, and adding FX's come mix down time, that way every track is present and you have a better feel of how the FX will blend into the mix. If you feel you must record the FX then record the FX to a seperate track and you have the option of using it or getting rid of it later.

I am glad to hear that, that might be added to 3.
For the most I agree with the never adding fx to tape (well harddrive)but a little compression on bass or a limiter on some vocals is needed to get the best results.

im in love w/ hard disk everything but this is the perfect example of why we should not remove outboard equipment all together.a versatile compressor and a few rackmount effects will always be a good addition to any studio.

Oh yes, I always forget about this situation, because I do have outboard gear. Along with my outboad FX's units and mic/pre compressors, I also have a Yamaha 03D mixing board, which has compressors/EQ/Delay on every channel and 2 internal FX's units. This also gives me the luxury of routing FX's to seperate tracks if I need to record them. Everyone needs to have an external mixer to do serious work. A Yamaha 01V is pretty cheap, and you get compressors, EQ, 2 FX's units, Mic Pre's, Scene memories, automated mixing. Real time input FX's are a nice feature for a PC, but I haven't found it ecccential since I purchased my 03D, which already gives me this luxury without having any latency issues.
